Camping

Buffelspoort dam boasts a recreation area ideal for camping, fishing and boating. Most of the campsites are situated on the water’s edge and almost half have electrical points. All campsites have braai facilities, and the non-electrified sites are perfect for day visitors and fishermen. Fishing is not allowed in front of the electrified sites, which is reserved for boats.

Fishing

Fishing is a very popular activity and Buffelspoort dam has produced a number of big fish including a 29.7kg Carp, a South African record up until a few years ago, and recently a Black Bass weighing in at 6.5kg. Large Barbel and Blue Kurper (frequently weighing more than 2kg) are also regular catches.

Zones

The dam is divided into a high activity zone and a low activity zone, each covering approximately 50% of the dam surface area and divided by a buoy line. The latter, also known as the “no wake” zone, is reserved for canoeing, sailing and quieter pursuits and a permit is required from the office to enter this area.
